Measuring Impact of the HPV Vaccine in the U.S

Eileen Dunne, MD, MPH, Division of Cancer Prevention and Control, CDC, MS E-02, 1600 Clifton Road, Atlanta, GA 30033

This third talk will discuss monitoring the impact of HPV vaccine in the U.S. Monitoring the vaccination will be challenging and several new mechanisms will need to be established. Epidemiologic surveillance can be designed to determine a variety of outcomes due to HPV. However, the impact of the vaccine on cervical cancer will not be seen for decades and there is no established surveillance for the more immediate outcomes, such as cervical cancer precursors and genital warts. Dr. Dunne will discuss the challenges and briefly describe ways to measure the impact of the vaccine in the U.S..
