Cervical Cancer Screening in the Context of HPV Vaccine: Implications for the National Breast and Cervical Cancer Screening Program and Beyond

Herschel Lawson, MD and Mona Saraiya, MD, MPH. Division of Cancer Prevention and Control, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 4770 Buford Hwy. NE, Mailstop K-55, Atlanta, GA 30341

Compared with other vaccines, the HPV vaccine presents several new challenges. An effective cervical cancer screening program exists to prevent one of the most important outcomes of HPV – and there are challenges related to superimposing a vaccination program on an existing screening program. This 4th talk will describe these specific challenges from the perspective of the National Breast and Cervical Cancer Early Detection Program.
