Socio political factors have a key role to play in deciding the policy actions aimed at the Government and the public. While the basic tents of advocacy are almost universal, specific actions in reaching policy goals need to be tailored and packaged taking into account the socio cultural factors.

The success of policy actions depend on various factors such as its timeliness, public preparedness, sound evidence base, significant and varied allies, supportive media, key change agents, well-accepted messengers and the message itself.

A key factor in the success of policy actions is their cost-effectiveness. Legislations are a proven, one stroke macro level response to public concerns. They offer broad reach, could be comprehensive and low cost in most cases.
