The need for radiation therapy around the world is not met by the current census of equipment and professional staffing. In some countries reimbursement and capital needed to purchase equipment and establish facilities is very limited. In addition, the demands of modern therapies, including IMRT and IGRT, add to the commissioning and quality assurance workload of radiation therapy departments. These limitations can be overcome by a combination of public and private financing initiatives, improved reimbursement, and tools and technology that simplify the installation, training, usage, quality assurance, and support of RT establishments.
