Methods: Eight patients with a diagnosis of extraskeletal osteosarcoma seen and treated by us during 1996-2002 at Regional Cancer Centre, Trivandrum, India, form the subjects of this study.
Results: Among the 8 patients studied, there were 6 males and 2 females. The median age at presentation was 29 years. The commonst presentations were soft tissue swelling and pain. Two patients had neurological deficit and 1 case presented with a mass abdomen. The sites of disease were thigh (2), scapular region (1), retroperitoneum (1), orbit (1), urinary bladder (1), elbow region(1) and chest wall (1). Radiologicaly these patients had soft tissue mass at sites of disease. Treatment consisted of surgery, chemotherapy and radiotherapy. Six patients underwent wide excision and one underwent forequarter amputation. Seven patients received chemotherapy with cisplatinum, doxorubicin and ifosphamide. Radiotherapy was given to 5 cases and the dose ranged from 30- 60 Gy. One patient recurred. The median survival was 30 months.
