Early Cancer Detection Card (Ecdc) and Community Empowerment Is Effective for Finding the Early Cancer Patients in Indonesian Community

Objective: To implement Early Cancer Detection Card (ECDC) and community empowerment for finding early cancer patients.

Methods: The effort focused on: educating community about cancer desease. And informing them how to fill the ECDC in order to find the symptom of cancer. The card consists of 7 kinds of the cancer symptoms. The study is a case study conducted at Ngalang village, Gunung Kidul district, Indonesia as an area research for finding early cancer patients by ECDC and community empowerment. Data were collected from the record of the card and the result of Fine Needle Aspiration Biopsy (FNAB) and mammografy.

Results:

The research showed that from 3,990 people be found 476 people with symptoms cancer awareness (11.93%). And from this, there are 35 people with lump at their breast. After the examination by FNAB and mammography, be found 3 women with breast cancer or 0.075% of the number of people or 0.157% of the number of the over 15 years women. ECDC is an effective model to find the early cancer desease through community empowerment. We hope this model can be practiced for another kind of cancers, another deseases and another places.
