Lian Zhang, MD, Gang Zhou, and Weifeng Wang. Department of Chronic Disease Prevention and Health Promotion, Henan CDC, #47 Weiwu Road, Zhengzhou, China

Objective:To determine the predictors of tobacco use among doctors in Henan province, along with the specific aim of providing data for the design of the intervention programs.

Methods:A random multilevel cluster sample method was conducted. 2990 subjects were studied with an inquiry and self-reported questionnaire.

Results:Total smoking rate was 27.5%. Current smoking rate was 22.3%. Per day smoking rate was 13.3%. The main reasons for smoking were social needs、pressure relief、getting refreshing. About 21.4% subjects smoke in front of patients. Majority doctors understood the casual relationship between smoking and some diseases. The multivariate analysis showed that gender、age、education background、revenue、section、hospital administration level、harmful knowledge of tobacco scale、relationship between smoking and illness scale、doctors' social norm attitude were related to doctors' smoking behavior.

Conclusions: The smoking behavior of doctors was complex, which was related to personal、social environment factors. Only comprehensive smoking prevention interventions could be addressed to produce lasting behavior change.
