Methods: LINCC is one of eight Cancer Prevention and Control Research Networks (CPCRN) funded by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the National Cancer Institute. LINCC was established in 2002 at the University of Texas School of Public Health, Center for Health Promotion and Prevention Research. LINCC is comprised of sixteen partner organizations providing varied expertise including community-based organizations, health departments, practice settings, an NCI Community Network Program, and the MD Anderson Cancer Research Center. Another partner is the National Center for Farmworker Health providing research and dissemination opportunities with their network of 500 migrant and community health centers across the country.
Results: LINCC conducts: 1) research on factors influencing colorectal cancer screening (CRCS) among Hispanics and the development of a community-based intervention to increase CRCS, 2) research on informed decision-making for cancer screening among Hispanics, 3) a systematic review of lay health worker interventions, 4) research on the effectiveness and dissemination of small media and tailored interactive multimedia interventions to increase breast and cervical cancer screening, and 5) research on effective methods for disseminating effective health promotion interventions. LINCC is also collaborating with the Texas Comprehensive Cancer Control Coalition to enhance evidence-based cancer control practice. LINCC has facilitated important collaborations between local partners and national partners through the network of CPCRNs that engage in collaborative planning and community-based cancer control research and dissemination.
