Objective: To explore Chinese farmers ‘smoking pattern
Methods: A multi-stage sampling procedure using a country-identified list of family households was implemented. The data was collected using household interview method.
Results: 4414 subjects had be got from three provinces, who were male farmers who were 15 and over years.Current smoking rate was 85.3%, daily smoking rate is 65.3%, and occasional smoking rate was 20.0% for six months. The smoking rate risen with age increasing and declined at 50-year cohort., and declined with educational level increasing. The smoking rate was high in married group than other groups, and was lower in no floating job group than other groups. Average (SD ) age of smoking starting is 20.20(2.80) and 21.70(9.44) respectively for occasional smokers and daily smokers. The average number of cigarettes smoked per day by daily smokers was 12.70(SD:7.99), and it was 9.89(5.94) by occasional smokers. The price of cigarettes used by daily smokers was more cheaper than that used by occasional smokers. Of all current non-smokers, 80.8% were passive smokers. The negative emotion was more important to induce smoke than positive emotion, Being idle or being alone was more important to induce smoke than Social contact , which was very different with that of urban population.
