Martin Tucek, PhDr, Health and Health Policy, Institute of Public Health and Economics, Kutnohorska, Kostelec nad Cernymi lesy, Czech Republic

Objective: The purpose is to provide a Conference audience with a short term history of tobacco industry practices in a Central Europe Country. The Czech Republic gets through an interesting development in the Tobacco industry promotion field in the last 15 years. It began with the return of the free trade market after 50 years of communism, when the biggest Czech factory was bought by Philip Morris Int. The government repeatedly made restrictions during the transition period. The accepting of the legislative frame on the Tobacco Control was a long-term procces based on a compromise. It took few years to remove errors/inaccurateness to improve the law by its amending. The situation was influenced by a well advised strategy of the tobacco industry, including the youth smoking prevention program. After the accesion to the EU, few positive changes pushing/aiming to diminish restrictions took place. The study describes a country, that has made a light progress, a lot (of things) must still be done...

Methods: Secondary data analyses, collecting information from accessible sources

Results: To describe the situation, where the tobacco industry is a step ahead before TC restrictions.
