Action Oriented Policy Research

Lisa Bero, PhD, Health Policy and Clinical Pharmacy, University of California, San Francisco, 3333 California St, Suite 420, San Francisco, CA 94903

OBJECTIVE: To review the status of tobacco control research

METHODS: Review of tobacco control research literature, observations of a tobacco control journal edito

RESULTS: Major repetitions and gaps exist in tobacco control research. Tobacco document research, for example, is ready to move from description of documents to more theoretically based analyses of documents. Trials of new cessation therapies could benefit from using more "real life" designs, such as group randomization or effectiveness studies.
