An Analysis of Households Expenditure on Tobacco Consumption and Healthcare Distribution in Ijero Ekiti Local Government Area of Ekiti State,Nigeria

Objective: With increasing tobacco comsumption in rural nigeria as compared with the cities,farmers and their households which account for 75% of national population and contributes over 36% of the Gross Domestic Product,are faced with a large disparity in the provision of healthcare facilities in the face of tobacco rellated diseases.

Methods: Regression analysis was used to determine factors affecting households increased reponse to tobacco smoking,while Multinomial Logit Model was used to determine households preference for a particular healthcare provider.simple averages,total sum and persentiles was also used.

Results: households level of education,age,gender,income amongst others were found to determine their consumption of tobacco,while their level of education,income,number of sick males,two weeks prior to the survey were found to influence their choice of a particular healthcare provider.There were no discriminative treatment of respondents based on age but there was based on gender.
