Profile of Smoking in Chilean Teenagers of Socioeconomic Low Level

Objective: to know the smoking status of teenagers of a low-socioeconomic level

Methods: descriptive transverse study there was applied in a sample of 327 students who in a voluntary form answered to a questionnaire with questions semiconstructed, in their high school.

Results: The results reveal 26% of smokers. The age in which they began in the consumption of the tobacco was in average of 13,1 years. The students indicate an average consumption of 12.8 cigars a week, 25,1% smoke in search of support and 75,1% do by pleasing. Of the total of smokers a 81% reports to want to stop smoking whereas 19 % proves to be indifferent.
