Objective: The objective of this paper is to present the SWOT analysis (strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats) of the activity of NGO Aer Pur which has been involved in the field of tobacco control in Romania since 1996.

Methods: The presentation is illustrated with examples, pictures and opinions of different stakeholders regarding the activity of the organization.

Results: During the last 9 years, Aer Pur have tried through different activities of health promotion, health education and advocacy to fight against the aggressive campaigns of promotion and manipulation developed by the tobacco companies in Romania. It organized training courses regarding smoking cessation for Romanian physicians, it implemented different projects of smoking prevention and cessation for young people as well as it was permanently involved in advocacy activity in order to determine the stakeholders to adopt and implement a coherent strategy regarding tobacco control in Romania. Even if there are many more objectives to achieve, Organization Aer Pur Romania is an example of how a NGO, could succeed to overcome the challenging of a society in transition and to play an important role in unifying the force of different governmental and nongovernmental organizations involved in tobacco control in Romania.
