The National Action Plan of Tobacco Control for 2002-2010 Period

Objective: To reduce the demand for tobacco products so as to control and gradually reduce the supply of tobacco products in order to reduce morbidity and mortality due to tobacco related diseases.

Methods: Measures to reduce demand of Tobacco Products 1. Health education and health promotion (including information education and communication - BCC) 2. Ban on all form of advertising (including promotion and sponsorship) of tobacco products. 3. Warning on tobacco products and tobacco products labeling. 4. Tax increases all tobacco products. 5. Smoking cessation support 6. Protection of non-smokers (including smoke-free areas).

Measures to reduce supply of tobacco products 1. strict control over tobacco production. 2. Control tobacco trading 3. Banning tobacco importation 4. Measures to control tobacco smuggling

Implementation of national tobacco control program

Strengthen of the National Steering Committee on Tobacco Control system

Results: Reduce the prevalence smoking of male from 50% to 20% Reduce the prevalence smoking of female to a level below 2% Reduce the prevalence smoking of young (15-24 years of age ) from 50% to 7% Protect the rights of non-smokers to breathe clean smoke-free air Reduce tobacco related losses for individuals, families and society as a whole.
