Building First Romanian Network for Smoking Prevention-Lessons to Learn from Romania?

Objective: Building a smoking prevention network is an important goal of tobacco control advocates, but also a big challenge. The objective of this paper is to present the process of building of first Romanian Network for smoking prevention, as well as activities and goals achieved by the network and its planes for the future.

Methods: The presentation is illustrated with examples and pictures regarding the activity of the network.

Results: The Romanian Network for smoking prevention was funded in 2004 and its members are ROMTENS Foundation, Organization AerPur,Romania and Society of Pneumology. The main goal of building the network was to succeed to put together different organizations, with different backgrounds, but one main goal-tobacco control-in order to have a comprehensive approach regarding smoking prevention and reduction. The network is already putting in paractice different projects, such as Smoke Free Work Places and Smoke Free Class Competition and its planes for the future are to advocate for the implementation of FCTC in Romania at different levels and in different ways.
