Objective: Show that is possible work for a Smoke Free Hospital (SFH) in a Public Hospital in Buenos Aires
Methods: Apply the CDC guide for Smoke Free Workplace in a Public Hospital in Buenos Aires City Actions: 1- Creation of a multidisciplinary group 2- Determination of indicators: - We survey peoplexopinion, behavioural and smoking rate - measurement of environmental nicotine with passive diffusion monitors - weekly counting the number of stubs of cigarettes in five corridors 3- making a communicational strategy 4- offering free treatment for Hospital Workers(HW) during working hours 5- training HW in the health damage of ETS and no smokers rights
Results: 1- basal survey: smoker rate was similar to general population : 33%, they knew about the health damage of ETS, it is lower three years bofore 2- There was nicotine around all the hospital, the highest values were in the coffee shop and in the office of intensive care, it is lower now 3- The corridors showed that after the first month the number of stubs lower to zero 4- the 14st month survey showed knowlegment the proyect and hight diminished of smoking inside 5- HW under treatment incresed 80%
Conclutions: is possible apply the CDC guide for a SFH in Argentina the clue: - strong decision - speake about no smoker rights - strong group - educate population - patience, patience, patience,
