Drahoslava HRUBÁ, Prof., MD, PhD, Dept. of Preventive Medicine, Masaryk University, Medical Faculty, Komenského n. 2, BRNO, Czech Republic

Objective: The new approach to the role of schools in smoking prevention enhances the collaboration of pedagogical and medical experts in Czech Republic.

Methods: Medical experts define the goals, pedagogical experts develope the appropriate ways. The questionnaire modified from the GHPS was used among pedagogical students as a basis for the formulation of priorities in their anti-smoking education.

Results: Together 6 types of specific roles of the school and tasks for their realization were defined. Their possible limitations are discussed. The results of the Pedagogical Professionals Survey are presented. Future teachers must improve their self-perception to be a non-smoking model for children and parents. As smoking is an addictive disease, they must be educated about their role in prevention and treatment among children. The must train the skills to use specific anti-smoking programmes.
