Using Global Tobacco Youth Surveillance Data in Program Planning and Evaluation

Objective : In spite of international tobacco control efforts and actions, tobacco is stil the second leading cause of death worldwide, causing nearly five million deaths a year. Most priority attention should be made to increasing trends of smoking prevalence among youth, which claiming for efficient smoking prevention and cessation programs, as also supportive smoke-free intersectorial actions.

Methods: Overview on leassons learned from GYTS Global Youth Tobacco Surveillance on international as also regional level in SEE countries, with emphasis on role and use of worldwide standardised data collection in advocacy for intersectorial support for enforcement of national tobacco control strategies and FCTC implementation.

Results : Comparative overview on GYTS results in SEE countries as tool for efficient youth smoking prevention and cessation programs and improvement of their training and education programs.
