Objective: As a preliminary study to develop appropriate and effective graphic health warning pictures for Korean tobacco pack, appropriativeness and effects evaluated with showing 68 foreign tobacco warning pictures.
Methods: The appropriativeness and effectiveness of 68 graphic health warning labels(16 from Canada, 6 from Singapore and 42 from European union, 4 from Tailand) was evaluated among 60 high school students and 180 college students. The response were measured by 5-point Likert scales.
Results: Canadian and European warning pictures were high in appropriativeness and low in effectiveness. Singaporean and Tailand pictures were relatively low in appropriativeness and relatively high in effectiveness. Negative disease warning pictures have high effectiveness compare to positive pictures.
