Objective: During the last five years, several studies showed the impact of computer-tailored information on health behavior. Thus, there is an increasing amount of behavior change programs which focus on smoking cessation. However, the majority of such programs aims at adult users. In spring of 2005, the Federal Center of Health Education in Germany has installed an internet-based smoking cessation program for adolescents. In this contribution, predictors for a successful programme-participation are to be presented. In this regard, the question whether male or female participants are more successful is dealt with. Furthermore, the impact of the pattern of consumption and the degree of nicotine-addiction on a successful participation is examined.
Methods: Analysing the data of N>800 users of an internet-based cessation programme.
Results: The degree of nikotin dependence seems to be most predictive for a successful participation on the programme.
