Building capacity for a tobacco-free world

Objective: The objective of the study is to analize the price and trade of manufactured tobacco products and its impact in consume, with the purpose to recomend the strategy to follow to perfection the Program for Prevention and Tobacco Control.
Methods: From 1985 to 2004 was determined the cigar and cigarrette consumption for adult of 15 years and over, as well as the change percent, comparing the information with the Region and the World, according to WHO statiscs. Yearly a Market Study is made, evaluating the different form of trading, price, its evolution, change percent, elasticity and impact in consumption.
Results: The study permits to conclude, that is necessary that the trade and price of the manufactured tobacco products, be totally according to the strategy of the Program, so that can be achieved the required decreasing in consumption and therefore in the health situation of the population. Economist and legal measured are proposed to facilitate Tabaquism Control.
