Objective: The Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation has set up a Tobacco Action Group (TAG) – a group run by young people, for young people. It aims to give young people a voice, an opportunity to express their opinions and ideas and make a positive contribution to the development and management of local and national projects on adolescent smoking prevention and cessation
Methods: The TAG has:received a talk from a Traidcraft speaker highlighting Fair Trade issues; undergone a 3 day team building programme to bond them as a group and to set their agenda for furture campaigns; presented at a Liverpool University lecture; developed a website plan including content, design and style; presented their research to parents and other interested organisations, which focuses on the tobacco industry and tobacco consumption in developing countries; promoted their work locally and nationally to engage and enthuse other young people to contribute to the Anti-Tobacco Youth Campaign.
Results: The Tobacco Action Group has set their own agenda for future campaigning which includes smoking on public transport and educating people about the exploitation of tobacco farmers by the tobacco industry. Nationally, they have engaged with other young people to get involved in and feed into the Anti-Tobacco Youth Campaign.
