Shawn E. Boogaard, MSE, Department of Family Medicine, UW Health: Fox Valley Family Medicine, 229 S. Morrison Street, Appleton, WI 54911 and Constance Olson, B.A., Community Action for Tobacco-free Living, 1820 Appleton Road, Menasha, WI 54952.

Objective: The Audience will identify an effective strategy in organizing volunteers for smoke-free ordinance and referendum work at the local level.

Methods: An aggressive strategy was used to recruit and organize volunteers for a smoke-free workplace referendum campaign. An organizational chart was produced to plan, document and follow workers through the entire process that proceeded the vote on smoke-free workplaces.

Results: Multiple contacts were made to prospective voters in the community and on election day, 56.3% of the voters supported 100% smoke-free workplaces.
