Countering Tobacco Marketing through Creating Culture

Objective: Showing techniques to create culture rather than cultural commentary to counter tobacco efforts to market their products.

Methods: The presentation will highlight a parody of an American Spirits advertising effort in local alternative magazines and newspapers.

Results: Attendees will learn the difference between criticizing tobacco marketing (less effective) and challenging the target audience with smart, humourous and interesting art and culture (more effective)
