Objective: to establish, in the Romanian pneumology hospital, the smoking prevalence in medical personnel
Methods: the ENSH questionnaire was translated in Romanian.Informative materials and the questionnaire were mailed to 25 pneumologie hospitals from all the country.15 hospitals answer ; 2000 questionnaires were filled.
Results: 1399 questionnaires were statistically analyzed 70% form interrogated personnel 30.8%was smokers (more than national average 28%), especially the nurses 38.4%. A problem is that 53% dosen't have any attemption to quit , maybe because only in a few chest hospitals are smoking cessation centers. Concluzion:In pneumology hospitals in Romania (2004-2005) ,the smoking prevalence stay high especially at doctors and nurses.(1997 – 29.7%- doctors, 2002 - 18% doctors; 40% nurses Mihaltan si col).The smoking cessation centers, in the hospital , with adaptable program, can determine a decrease in medical personnel smoking prevalence.
